RR27 Milanku - Convalescence
Formed in Quebec during the fall of 2006, Milanku is a five-piece band from
Montreal that combines elements of hardcore and post-rock to create a
captivating dynamic throughout their music that is extremely raw, yet oddly
comfortable. The band orchestrates genuine moments of aggression and melancholy
in order to question where mankind is headed and capture the true essence of
human struggle in modern society.
On December 1, 2018, Milanku re-released their
first full-length album
Convalescence through Replenish Records.
100% of the proceeds from the digital downloads of the album will be
donated to Compassion Over Killing at http://www.cok.net in order to
help promote a plant-based diet and expose the routine abuses forced
upon animals raised for food through undercover investigations inside
factory farms and legal advocacy.

"At the crossroads between post-metal and
post-rock, Milanku completely charmed Montreal's local scene with their enormous
guitar build up. Milanku creates and gives a deep melancholy consisting in
a slow and evasive musical journey focused on repetitions and evolving
structures. Featuring members of Kraken and Autumn Picture. For fans
of Explosion In The Sky, Envy, and Neurosis." Post-Engineering
"Milanku is a Canadian band. From Quebec to be more precise.
Convalescence is the first full-length of the group. Musically,
Milanku creates melancholic atmospheres where the slow melody, graceful, and sad
has its place. L eaving time for sweet melodies to take their place, drums and
bass, they sway a rhythm sometimes vaporous, sometimes angry. Singing
carves a place here or there, sometimes, sometimes, but never too often.
As if this one was just another instrument to reinforce strong passages. A
tool at the service of emotions. We are very clearly very close to
post-rock here. We think of Explosions In The Sky with the heaviness of
Isis and the majesty of Gantz. But it's mostly melodies that remind me of
Envy I think. The beauty, sweetness, and simplicity while in tension of an
Envy. The beauty of open spaces, and the melancholy of urban areas.
Milanku is a bit of all of this. And so a group to rank alongside their
compatriots Buried Inside and Titan. In addition to melodic of course!
A successful album and very beautiful. A huge evolution since their first
record in 2007." Shoot Me Again Webzine |
