emotions about the reconnection to earth and the true meaning of home.

"Australia’s Encircling Sea grafts earthy black metal themes and musical motifs
onto a bedrock of lengthy clean doom structures and sweeping post-rock.
So, while the band’s sound is altogether more lilting and pastoral than Wolves
In The Throne Room, Agalloch, or Altar of Plagues, and not nearly so precious as
the frenchy contingent of Alcest et al., these songs are new buildings with old
walls. Ultimately, though, the quality of execution is so high that you
just might like to make yourself a home here." LastRrites
"Australia's Encircling Sea is a band that few people have probably heard of,
but they are certainly keeping the spirit of post-metal alive, and indeed could
be carrying it to a whole new level. They have crafted an album worthy of
our adoration - a true masterpiece. A Forgotten Land contains four songs
and about 68 minutes of epic, sprawling and beautifully atmospheric metal.
These guys play with more passion and heart than I could even imagine being able
to muster up - A Forgotten Land is honestly one of the most intense sludge
albums I've ever heard. It is a metal record, but the beauty and grandeur
that characterize so much of the music makes it quite unusual. I'm very
much in love with this record, and I think you will be as well." Hammer

"Encircling Sea are Melbourne-based four-piece who play a progressive, eclectic
style of black metal incorporating elements of post-metal, noise, ambiance and,
surprisingly enough, folk. Its members have previously lent their talents
to the likes of Clagg, The Abandonment, In Trenches, and Whitehorse among
others. With A Forgotten Land, Encircling Sea manage to tread the valleys
between punishing heaviness, meditative calm and ethereal transcendence.
This is a sonic journey filled with emotional depth and progressive
instrumentation – an exceedingly ambitious concept, but flawlessly executed.
Consider me blown away. Essential for fans of Deafheaven, Year of No
Light, Alcest and anyone interested in intelligent, progressive, heavy music.
Do yourselves a favour and check it out." Metal Obsession |
